New Yorkers and state visitors can fish without a license Saturday as part of the state’s free fishing days.
New York holds six free fishing days each year to encourage people to fish for the first time, bring friends and family to participate in the activity or return back to fishing after taking a break from the aquatic venture.
"From Babylon to Buffalo, free fishing days are a great opportunity for New Yorkers to enjoy the outdoors at one of New York state's many world-class fishing locations," Gov. Kathy Hochul said in astatementThursday.
While the license requirement is waived Saturday, all other fishing regulations will remain in effect. The New York Department of Environmental Conservation provides a guide for anyone looking for a place to fish. The last free fishing day will be Nov. 11.
