Gov. Kathy Hochul issued a proclamation over the weekend declaring October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Hochul also launched "Start the Conversation" a multimedia campaign to help New Yorkers raise awareness about violence in their communities.
The governor said in the release, "far too many New Yorkers have endured abuse and suffering." She said October serves as a reminder to meet the needs of survivors and families by addressing domestic and gender-based violence in neighborhoods and homes.
