The local religious community is celebrating the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn a decades-long right to abortion.
Lisa Hall of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse says it feels like their advocacy has paid off.
“Knowing that the unborn will be protected in law—at least somewhat at the highest levels in our land—it's a day for celebration,” Hall said. “We’ve worked long and hard for that to have the unborn recognized in that way.”
However, Gov. Kathy Hochul says abortion will remain legal in New York. Following the high court’s decision, Hochul’s office rolled out a new campaign that promotes access in the state.
