New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Syracuse University alumna, will deliver the address at the school's Sunday commencement ceremony for 2020 graduates, the University announced today.

The graduation was delayed last May due to the pandemic.

Hochul, the 57th and first female governor of New York State took her position in August, following the resignation of Andrew Cuomo. During her career at Syracuse, Hochul participated in debate and student government, and graduated in 1980 with a degree in political science.

Chancellor Kent Syverud called the opportunity to welcome Hochul back to campus an honor. The Chancellor also said that Hochul is part of a group of Orange alumni who has answered the call to public service.

Commencement begins at 10 a.m.
