A local school official is earning statewide recognition.

A New York council named East Syracuse Minoa Superintendent Donna DeSiato as its newest superintendent of the year.

During her time as ESM’s leader, DeSiato has improved graduation rates among students with disabilities, elevated the district’s STEM program to national recognition and established partnerships with businesses to enhance learning opportunities for students.

DeSiato attributed her success to the support and trust from school administrators.

“More than anything else, I want to thank our community, and especially the Boards of Education I have worked with, for giving me the time and patience that is required to lead an effort for transformation and shared success,” DeSiato said in a statement announcing the award.

DeSiato is the first woman to hold the role of superintendent at ESM and is the first female to receive the state superintendent of the year award since 2016. She now goes on as the state’s nominee for the national title.
