Syracuse University took time out today to remember the victims of the Pan Am Flight 103 Bombing, 33 years to the day after the tragedy. Alumna Linda Euto lost fellow classmate Wendy Lincoln in the terrorist attack and takes comfort that memories live on.
“I’ve had the honor to tell Wendy’s story. These are the moments and memories I treasure. Because of that, Wendy’s stories have not faded, but rather the opposite. They are stronger and have become etched in my memory.”
The University continues to name 35 Remembrance Scholars, as well as two Lockerbie scholars in the Scotland town where the plane crashed after the bombing.
The virtual ceremony included the reading of the names of the SU student victims by some of those scholars. SU also held its annual remembrance week in October which included laying roses for each victim, along with workshops on issues of terrorism.
The 1988 bombing killed 270 people aboard the plane and another 11 on the ground in the subsequent crash.
Concurrent memorials took place at Arlington National Cemetery and in Scotland.
