Deputies were dispatched to the town of Clay home of Deputy Isaac Eames arrived shortly after 7:30 a.m. Eames was pronounced dead at the scene.
Multiple ambulances were sent to the home and two of Eames's family members were rushed to the hospital. Onondaga County Legislator Chris Ryan, a member of the public safety committee, offered condolences to the family.
“It’s an awful tragedy and a tragic loss of life whether it’s a county employee that works in public safety or it’s anybody," Ryan said. "For me and I think everybody else, our hearts go out to the family because it’s just awful.“
The sheriff’s office said two family members are listed in critical condition. Officials are investigating but said there is no threat to the public.
