Syracuse Police are planning to step up ticketing of running, unattended vehicles after a 40% increase in vehicle thefts compared to the same time last year. In a release, SPD Lieutenant Matthew Malinowski said empty, running cars are not only illegal, they’re easy targets for thieves who often use them for crimes like shootings and robberies. He said violators could face tickets or towing.
