Gov. Kathy Hochul issued a proclamation that declared March 29 the day in honor of the largest demographic group of veterans who live in New York.

On Tuesday, state landmarks were lit in green, yellow, and red in observance of Vietnam Veterans Day.

"Vietnam veterans never received the heroes' welcome they rightfully deserved and New York is rectifying that by letting them know we're thankful for them and their service," Hochul said in a statement regarding Vietnam Veterans.

New York has 217,011 Vietnam Veterans in the state, one of the largest demographic groups of veterans living in New York. Furthermore, 4,019 Vietnam Veterans are inscribed on the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. Along with the Vietnam War, these veterans have served in the waters and air of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia.
