Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh is responding to a viral video in which city police are seen with a crying, young boy who allegedly stole a bag of chips from a North side store.

The mayor said based on the video he viewed, the boy was never handcuffed; however, the child was placed in the back of a police cruiser and officers explained they were taking him home.

Walsh said police were familiar with the child from prior interactions and no charges were filed. Walsh has requested the police chief and Syracuse Police Department review all body worn camera footage from the incident.
