The City of Syracuse collected 240 firearms at its gun buyback program this weekend, which was hosted in partnership with the New York Attorney General’s office. People turned in a total of 91 long guns, 104 handguns, 39 non-working guns, and 6 assault rifles.

Those who turned in a gun received a prepaid gift card that varied in amount based off of the type of gun turned in. Gun buyback programs take place across New York State. The Attorney General’s Office reports it has collected nearly 5,000 firearms statewide through these events.
