The State Assembly has passed sponsored legislation by State Assembly-member Bill Magnarelli of Syracuse to create a commemorative medals program for veterans who served in the Vietnam and Korean Wars. To be eligible, veterans would need to be current or prior State residents and received an honorable discharge from military service. If the recipient happens to be deceased, the commemorative medal would then be presented to a designated representative. Magnarelli says in a statement, “Vietnam and Korean War veterans deserve proper respect and recognition of their honorable service.” The legislation still needs to be passed by the Senate and Governor Hochul’s signature.
