NYS Education Department cancels US History and Government regents tests following Buffalo Shooting

The State Education Department has cancelled the US history and Government regents test statewide over concerns it could add to the trauma from the mass shooting in Buffalo.

In a message to school administrators, officials say it’s not appropriate to administer the exam with a question that could compound the grief and hardship faced by school communities. The message didn’t specify what content posed the concern.

Ten people, all of them black, were killed in a racially motivated shooting at a Buffalo Tops store on May 14.
