New Yorkers are getting more time to weigh in on the state's strategy to address impacts of climate change.

The state’s climate action council announced Wednesday it is extending the public comment period on a draft plan to help the state meet its climate goals.

More than 18,000 comments have been submitted so far following 11 public hearings. Residents now have until July 1 to offer input.

The draft was released in late December and provides several scenarios to meet directives under the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.

The climate action council wants to make recommendations to the governor and Legislature by the end of the year.
