Gov. Kathy Hochul is cautioning residents about extreme heat conditions expected across the state this week. Heat index values are expected to reach the 90s and even the low 100s in some spots.

Temperatures in Onondaga and other Central New York counties are expected to soar to the 90s on Wednesday, the National Weather Service said in a heat advisory. The high humidity will make it difficult to cool down, the forecast said.

Hochul said in a news release that dangerously hot temperatures are also expected downstate in New York City and Long Island.

The release from her office directed people to cooling centers. In Onondaga, that includes the county's Central Library in downtown Syracuse, the Camillus and Cicero senior centers, The Jewish Community Center, the Dunbar Center of Syracuse and dozens of other sites. But the governor's website encourages members of the public to call locations and confirm they are open.
