U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and nearly 100 of her colleagues are pushing to extend the federal limited Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program waiver deadline.

They ask for a deadline extension through July 1, 2023, the same date new public service loan forgiveness regulations are scheduled to begin by the Department of Education.

She said more than 189,000 public servants have had student loans forgiven since last October. Gillibrand also stated that the program is successful in reducing barriers for nearly 91% of borrowers as of last July.
