The Statewide Senior Action Council is honoring a local state senator with a lifetime achievement award as part of its 50th anniversary.

May is acknowledged for the extra time she dedicates to meeting with older New Yorkers, her work to increase funding for senior services and for improving visitation rights at nursing homes.

In a statement, the council's executive director Maria Alvarez said May has sponsored bills and helped to pass laws that have improved consumer protections for seniors.
