Baldwinsville school board member resigns

WAER News

A Baldwinsville school board member is leaving his position, citing the recent actions of the superintendent among other factors. In his resignation letter, Frank Matus said superintendent Jason Thompson exercised poor judgment while crowd surfing during a homecoming game two weeks ago. Thompson was arrested later that night on a DWI charge.

School board President Jennifer Patruno read his complete statement at a recent board of education meeting. In it, Matus said Thompson’s behavior, combined with the demands of his business, spurred his departure.

"My decision to resign is not solely based on this past weekend’s events. However, the catalyst needed to reinforce my decision. I’ve been away from the area frequently for work in recent months, taking many nights and weekends away from my family and affecting my ability to serve as an active board member," Patruno read from the resignation letter.

Matus believes the Baldwinsville Central School District needs a “community voice with the necessary time and energy” to handle the challenges ahead. The district has not yet announced a replacement for Matus.
