Two dozen Central New York child care facilities will receive a combined $1.3 million to expand capacity. It’s part of $30 million the state dedicated to help childcare programs in underserved areas. Gov. Kathy Hochul in a release Friday said more than 400 state-licensed, registered or permitted programs will benefit from the funds.
The dollars come from the American Rescue Plan Act. According to the state, roughly 60% of New York is considered a child care desert, meaning an area that does not have enough daycare slots for the children in the community.
