A teenager is in custody for firing a gun inside the Syracuse mall last week.

A gunshot struck a trash can inside Destiny USA on Friday. Syracuse police evacuated and closed the mall at the time but did not find the suspect.

Now they say they arrested a 14-year-old on multiple charges, including first-degree reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a firearm.

Officers say he allegedly fired the weapon after a dispute with another group at the mall.

Syracuse Police Deputy Chief Richard Trudell assures that the department is prepared to address these issues once they arise.

“And as with this case and other cases where we know that firearms are in the possession of juveniles, we have certain protocols that we take. So, we use our SIRP (School Information Resource Program) officers to first notify the family,” Trudell said.

Authorities said he’s also facing charges for a shooting in January that they believed resulted in an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound
