Syracuse University is launching a new degree in Esports Communication and Management.

The university said its esports program will be offered jointly by the Newhouse School and the Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics. The program will include the three tracks of Esports Business and Management, Esports Media and Design and Esports Communication.

Chancellor Kent Syverud said in a statement last week he believes the esports program is a natural extension of Syracuse University's sport related programs and academic excellence.

"This new major is the latest example of Syracuse University innovating, expanding career options in emerging fields and delivering programs students want," Syverud said.

The program will be among the first of its kind at a major university. Sports Media Center director Olivia Stomski said the one of a kind program will help students thrive in the emerging esports industry.

“We have spent countless hours researching the industry and the interests of our students to create a rigorous and dynamic curriculum that will prepare graduates to succeed in this thriving, ever-changing field," Stomski said.

Syracuse University will begin enrolling students to the program in the fall of 2024.
