Black-led organizations have an opportunity to apply for grant funding focused on uplifting their community goals and projects.
The Central New York Community Foundation is getting ready to open applications for its next round of Black Equity & Excellence Fund grants.
Program officer Darrell Buckingham said eligible projects can focus on areas that range from business and tech to leadership and civic engagement, and past grant winners have invested in their community's younger residents.
“Many of those organizations will have projects specific to empowering Black youth," Buckingham said. "It could be projects specific to mental health, maternal health.”
Previous grantees include the Good Life Youth Foundation and Cafe Sankofa.
Buckingham said the application allows for flexibility, which can allow applicants to get creative.
“This application can be submitted via PowerPoint, can be submitted audio, video, or even in written narrative," he said.
An advisory council of Black community members review the applications to choose where funds are needed most.
An informational virtual meeting is scheduled for April 27 at noon. Applications open on May 1 and are due on July 7.
