One of Syracuse’s largest live theater performance venues unveiled its upcoming 2024 - 2025 season that gets underway next fall. The Redhouse Arts Center is situated in the former Sibley’s Department store building on South Salina Street and is a part of the new “City Center” development. Artistic Director Temar Underwood says the entire season’s theme are plays all based on individuals seeking their place to fit in.
“…Who are searching for a place and belonging in our world and it's The world can be a little bit ugly and so whether that's about your economic condition, whether that's about your racial identity or your sexuality or your gender identity, or just wanting to find peace and beauty in a world that can be ugly sometimes.”
Hence, the first play of the season is William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” which Underwood describes as a solo performance and one of many that really demonstrates a truly authentic range of human emotions by actors.
“… And that manifests itself in comedy, drama and singing and crying, and the whole sort of realm of the human experience, but I think all of these plays definitely sort of help you get there.”
“Hamlet” will only be seen by preseason ticket holders. The next production available to the general public will be “The Sound of Music” December 6th through the 22nd. Redhouse Arts Center is a supporter of WAER.
