A section of Almond Street under the I-81 viaduct will close for about two weeks starting Monday to facilitate preliminary utility work for the highway project. Detours will be posted for traffic in both directions between Van Buren and Taylor streets. The closure will affect those who use Almond Street to get to the VA Medical Center, SUNY ESF, Syracuse University, and Toomey Abbott Towers. Work is expected to be completed by July 23rd.

According to the New York State Department of Transportation:
Motorists traveling northbound are advised to follow the signed detour to south on Renwick Avenue, to west on Martin Luther King East, to north on Oakwood Avenue, to east on Taylor Street.
Motorists traveling southbound are advised to follow the signed detour to west on Taylor Street, to south on Oakwood Avenue, to east on Martin Luther King East, to north on Renwick Avenue.
Construction activities are weather-dependent and subject to change based on conditions.
