Heading into Syracuse on the heels of the Democratic National Convention, US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand described riding an undeniable wave of unity that's re-energizing her party. From the New York State Fair, she said the convention laid out a clear message and introduced rising Democratic stars to the national stage.

“Our keynote was Angela Alsobrooks soon to be a senator from Maryland. We had a lot of Congress members, young members who are new and you know and are doing public service and are trying to protect and support their communities.  I felt really energized from the Convention and I think America did too.”

This week, an NPR poll shows the democrats have closed the gap to the point that the seven most contested states are now up for grabs.

Gillibrand says the number of volunteers making calls and knocking on doors to drum-up support is also on the rise. She is excited for her friend Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who ran alongside her in 2006 when they both unseated Republican congressional incumbents in red states.

“…And he's been able to represent his whole state so beautifully with grace and distinction with enormous courage. And he's somebody who brings people together and not push them apart. He's exactly what America needs and I think he'll make a great contribution to the Harris-Walls ticket.”

Gillibrand says she is working hard to flip the House this year highlighting the Democrats platform focusing on building a stronger economy, better jobs, improving education and healthcare for all.
