John Mannion celebrates his victory in New York 22nd Congressional District with supporters at SKY Armory in downtown Syracuse.

New York’s 22nd Congressional District flipped from red to blue last night as John Mannion defeated incumbent Brandon Williams. Mannion’s campaign gathered at SKY Armory last night taking the stage around 11 pm. He thanked Central New York union representatives and others for his victory.

“And these people standing with me and out there… we all stand together. Labor won this election!”

As Mannion was addressing the crowd, a member of his campaign interrupted him to take a phone call. His eyes widened as his opponent was on the the other end.

“There we go. Campaigns can be challenging… certainly this one was. But, that was representative Williams. He was very gracious; he just conceded. But, I thank him for handling this situation the way that he did.”

The newly drawn 22nd Congressional District lines helped his campaign. He came into politics after retiring from teaching and won his first bid for state senate.
