The new public safety headquarters on 1153 W. Fayette St. will house the Syracuse police and fire dept. operations. They began the move this week as work continues on the building.

The Syracuse Police and Fire departments are starting to move operations from their long-time downtown location to the near west side.

An old warehouse on West Fayette near Geddes St. has been transformed into the new public safety headquarters. The departments have outgrown their current South State Street offices, which are outdated and unsafe.

Authorities said emergency services are not affected, and police services are still available at the State St. location until further notice.
