Symphoria Will Bring Patriotic Flavor to the Amphitheater July 4th

John Smith

Central New York’s own orchestra Symphoria will be taking the stage at the Lakeview Amphitheater for the first time ever on July 4th.  The concert will also include a fireworks display immediately after the performance.  Musician and Organizer Jon Garland says the selections should put everyone in a patriotic mood.

"We're going to be doing some Star Wars and a diverse number of selections, but also quite a few patriotic selections because of the fourth of July," Garland said.  "We'll end with the 1812 Overture, because it seems like it pairs so well with the end of this concert.  And, it's a beautiful segue into the fireworks display.”

The Lakeview Amphitheatre includes both an expansive lawn for chairs and blankets, as well as 5,000 seats covered by a pavilion.  Weather shouldn’t be a problem on Monday, but Garland says the space gives peace of mind to performers and concert-goers alike.

"One of the special things about playing at the amphitheater is that there's an actual physical cover here," Garland said.  "But it's so high and the venue is so wide that it still feels like you're outside, but there's a roof over your head.  That for us makes us worry a little bit less about whether it will sprinkle a little bit.”

Children under 18 will be admitted free to the event.  Garland says concerts like this have the potential to introduce many people in the community to orchestral music.

These seats will be filled for the concert on Monday.

“It's special for the orchestra because for a lot of folks, it's the first time families in some cases will bring their kids to experience what a symphony orchestra sounds like," Garland said.  "That's always special to everybody in the orchestra because when we look out at the audience and we see people having a great time,  and they're there with their kids...there's a certain  aura about the event.”

Tickets for adults are $10.  The concert will begin at 8:00 on July Fourth, with gates opening at 6:30. The fireworks display will occur just after the concert is finished at 9:30.  More information about Symphoria's summer concert season is at
