Onondaga County is making some adjustments to the coronavirus testing site at NBT Bank Stadium. The site serves as a testing hub for symptomatic students and staff of school districts across the county. County Executive Ryan McMahon said starting Friday, rapid diagnostic testing will be available in addition to existing saliva infrastructure.

“At one o’clock, they’ll all be sent to Cayuga Health where our rapid testing machines work and run for results every four hours. So essentially we know we’ll receive turn times essentially within that same 24-hour window," said McMahon.

Preregistration for these tests are available, but not required. Appointments are still required to receive a saliva test.

In an attempt to free up phone lines at Upstate University Hospital, people can now request an appointment for a saliva test at the site online. Appointments can be made at mychart.upstate.edu. Upstate patients should have existing accounts, but there is also an option to make a guest account.

The county is increasing its saliva testing capacity at NBT Bank Stadium, but there is still a wait for an appointment. Testing is also available in a number of other location throughout the county, including Syracuse Community Health Center and local doctors’ offices.
