The "Small Bottle" Ban Coming In New York State

Going green in New York State will soon come at the cost of conveniently staying clean for some travelers. Governor Kathy Hochul has signed a new law banning small toiletry bottles from hotels with 50 or more rooms starting January 1st, 2025. Smaller hotels will follow suite one year later in January 2026. According to the senate’s website, the new law aims to help New York’s environmental goals of reducing plastic waste. Proponents of the new law argued that travelers often use only a portion of the products, which later end up in the trash rather than being recycled.
