A Central New York woman has been barred from selling dogs after the attorney general’s office found she violated numerous state laws. AG Eric Schneiderman stopped by the CNYSPCA Friday.
He explained how Carissa Seaman of Cleveland came to their attention.
The action is part of Schneiderman’s Animal Protection Initiative, which launched in May. He says the collaboration with various state and local agencies to investigate dog flipping, dog fighting, and puppy mills is long overdue. Schneiderman says New York has pretty strict laws, but they haven't been enforced much until now. He wants to provide much-needed support for the SPCA's and other agencies who've been waging the battle against animal cruelty for years.
Schneiderman offered several tips for consumers to protect themselves from unscrupulous, unlicensed pet dealers.

Schneiderman says to expect to hear more on his initiative in the months and years ahead as his staff ramps up its investigations and enforcement.
LOOKING FOR A HOME
Sasha, a four-year-old female pit bull joined Schneiderman at the press conference. SPCA Director Paul Morgan says she's been waiting for a home for a year. Her owner had to turn her in for financial reasons. Morgan says she's well behaved, and great with kids and other animals.
