WAER Spends A Day At The New York State Fair

Wondering what's in store at the 2018 New York State Fair? WAER's Katie Zilcosky was there opening day to find out what's new and what can be expected this year. 

The Expo Center

Governor Cuomo cut the ribbon and opened the new $63 million Exposition Center. The Expo Center will have some hockey games, free skating and a wedding during the run of the fair. After the fair is over, the facility will host a number of large events such as a drone racing competition and the Taste of New York Fall Festival. The Milk Bar

Twenty-five cent milk is a New York State fair staple. Make sure you have a dollar on hand to exchange it for milk bar tokens. 

The Midway

The Midway opens each day at 10 a.m. This year, it hastwo of the the three largest traveling rollercoasters. Tickets can be bought at the Fair or online. If you want a free ride, head over to the observation tower for views of the fairground from seven stories off the ground at no cost.

The Food

The New York State Fair says the people have spoken, Fried Specialties' new item "The Heart Attack" is the winner of the new "Fantastic Foods" contest.  It's two hotdogs wrapped in chilli and cheddar. Then wrapped in bacon. Then fried. Then drizzled with cheese and chocolate. Then topped with jalepenos.

If you're not so adventourous, Fair favorites like Gianelli Sausage and The New York State Great Potato Booth are there to fill your stomach.
