A family friendly event is helping parents mark the new year with a noontime celebration.

The Fayetteville Free Library is preparing for what’s called Noon Year’s Eve, where families are invited to bring little ones to enjoy a midday event to signal the end of 2022.

Assistant Director Leah Kraus said it features some of the celebratory staples of New Year’s Eve parties but in a kid-friendly way.

“It’s kind of a family dance party. We have music playing, we have all the noisemakers, and all of that good stuff. We have some crafts for kids and families to do," Kraus said.

Kraus says the library even does a ball drop to ring in the new year.

“When it gets right close to noon, we do a countdown and we countdown to the ball drop. And when the ball drops, we release all these balloons from the ceiling and it’s a lot of fun," she said.

Kraus said the library hopes it helps parents celebrate with their kids, but at an hour that still accommodates early bed times.

“Some of us here on staff are parents of small kids and thinking about how to celebrate with your kids and make it special, but not wanting to have them up all night and that sort of thing," she said.

Kraus said about 75 to 100 people have attended previous Noon Year’s Eve celebrations at the library. The festivities this year are set to begin at 11:30 on Saturday morning.
