Syracuse residents to see new trash pickup days starting Sept. 9

The City of Syracuse will change garbage pickup days for 11,700 households, starting the week of Sept. 9, as part of an overhaul to improve efficiency.

This adjustment, based on a data-driven analysis, will reduce routes from 15 to 12 per day, saving the city about $10,000 annually in fuel and truck maintenance costs.

The changes come ahead of a switch to larger recycling containers and a new bi-weekly recycling schedule. All residents will receive notification postcards, and an interactive map is available online at Trash and Recycling Route Optimization – City of Syracuse
