Syracuse rally this weekend to demand arms embargo in Palestine and beyond

Several Syracuse organizations are sponsoring a National Day of Action to protest Israel's actions against Palestine, Lebanon and other countries in the region. The groups are calling for an arms embargo.

“We are average people who do not want to see our taxes go to slaughter innocent men, women, and children in not only Gaza, but also the West Bank, Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, Iran. We need an arms embargo NOW.” -Dana Carmeli, attendee and organizer.

The rally, memorial, and march takes place November 1 at 2 p.m. in front of the Hanley Federal Building.

The half mile long event is scheduled to last two hours.

  • Start Location: James M. Hanley Federal Building
  • Program: Rally with speakers, followed by a .5-mile march and concluding with additional speakers and a memorial
  • Duration: Approximately 1.5 to 2 hours
  • Accessibility: Multiple bus stops are nearby, including the CENTRO hub, with flat walking routes; city parking is available, and SU game traffic may cause delays. Masks are encouraged.

Beck retired as News Director at Wyoming Public Radio in 2022 after 34 years. During his time, Beck won 5 regional Edward R. Murrow awards and 5 Public Media Journalists Association awards for reporting. He also won 11 PMJA awards for the news and public affairs program Open Spaces.
