Central New York will see new National Weather Service winter weather warnings this season, replacing some old advisories.
The Wind Chill Advisory and Warning are being replaced by:
- Cold Weather Advisory: For temperatures or wind chills of -15°F or lower.
- Extreme Cold Warning: For temperatures or wind chills of -25°F or lower.
- Extreme Cold Watch: Issued when these conditions are expected within 12 to 48 hours.
Existing warnings remain unchanged:
- Ice Storm Warning: At least 1/4 inch of ice in 24 hours.
- Winter Storm Warning: At least 7 inches of snow in 12 hours or 9 inches in 24 hours.
- Blizzard Warning: Winds over 35 mph with visibility under 1/4 mile for 3+ hours.
- Winter Weather Advisory: At least 4 inches of snow in 12 hours.
With these updates, Central New Yorkers will have clearer guidance to prepare for severe winter conditions.
