Flu cases are increasing in Central New York, with Onondaga County reporting 504 cases as of January 18, according to the State Department of Health. Statewide, 31 of 62 counties have confirmed cases, and flu-related hospitalizations have reached 5,818.
Flu symptoms start suddenly about 1 to 4 days after exposure and may include:
- Cough
- Diarrhea (more common in children)
- Fever or feeling feverish/chills
- Headache
- Muscle or body aches
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Sore throat
- Tiredness
- Vomiting (more common in children)
Health officials urge residents to get vaccinated and practice good hygiene, such as frequent hand washing, to reduce the risk of severe illness.
