I-81 southbound lane closures in Syracuse for bridge removal

I-81 south bound traffic slows to a crawl for construction

I-81 south bound traffic slows to a crawl for construction.

Drivers on Interstate 81 southbound should expect delays in Syracuse. The highway will be reduced to one lane between the Hiawatha Boulevard and Franklin Street exits weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through March 5.

The state Department of Transportation says crews are removing the Spencer Street Bridge abutment and retaining wall as part of the I-81 Viaduct Project.

Construction is weather dependent and subject to change.
