People looking to rent a place to live in Syracuse now have a new way to make sure properties are safe. The city’s Look Before Your Rent tool provides prospective renters an interactive map that shows a property’s status on the city’s rental registry, if it has code violations, or if it’s been declared unfit.
The city also inspects rental properties every three years and must be clear of code violations before being issued a Certificate of Compliance.
It’s part of the city’s latest effort to increase transparency and encourage accountability for landlords with open code violations.
