The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance is reminding residents that tax returns are due by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15.

Free filing options are available through the Direct File program, which lets eligible users file both state and federal taxes online.

The Tax Department says even those who can’t pay in full should still file to avoid penalties and interest. Resources and answers to common questions are available online.
