More than 600 firearms were turned in over the weekend at a gun buy-back event in Syracuse, including 130 assault weapons. More than half of the firearms were handguns.
People also turned in long guns and even two ghost guns, which don’t have serial numbers. The state attorney general’s office and Syracuse partnered for the event, which aims to reduce the number of guns in the community.
Since 2019, more than 9,000 guns have been collected statewide.
