Syracuse unemployment dips slightly as statewide rate holds steady

The Syracuse area’s unemployment rate ticked down slightly in March. Preliminary data from the New York State Department of Labor shows the local rate at 3.9%, compared to 4% a year ago.

Utica-Rome posted a 4.2% unemployment rate, while Rochester matched Syracuse at 3.9%. Albany reported the lowest rate among upstate metros at 3.5%. New York State’s overall rate held steady at 4.2%.
