The Syracuse region saw the strongest private sector job growth in the state last month compared to last year. The New York Department of Labor says the job market grew by 2.1% in April.

That’s the largest percentage gain anywhere in New York and totaled 5,400 jobs.

The Utica-Rome area saw a .6% percent decrease, while Rochester grew by 1%. Statewide, there were more than 14,000 new private sector jobs in April.
