The department was recognized for excellence in public safety and community engagement after a multi-year review process.

The Syracuse Police Department has received national accreditation for the first time in its history, marking a major milestone in its efforts to improve public safety and community trust.

The honor was awarded by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), following a multi-year process that included a self-assessment and an external review. The evaluation covered the department’s policies, procedures, community engagement, equipment, and facilities.

Officials say the accreditation recognizes the department’s commitment to professional standards and its dedication to serving the Syracuse community.
