Elmwood Park to close for Furnace Brook restoration project

A stone bridge and small waterfall
Syracuse will close Elmwood Park through October to repair damage from Tropical Storm Fred, with work funded by FEMA and state emergency officials.

Starting June 2, Syracuse will shut down Elmwood Park to restore the Furnace Brook channel, which was damaged by flooding from Tropical Storm Fred in 2021.

The project includes sediment removal, channel wall repairs, and turf restoration, and is expected to last through October. The park will be closed to the public during this time.

Funding for the project comes from FEMA and the New York Department of Homeland Security.
