An area lawmaker wants Central New York better protected from weather emergencies.
Rome Republican State Sen. Joe Griffo is co-sponsoring legislation to establish the Central New York Extreme Weather Relief and Resiliency Grant Program. The initiative would help farmers, business owners, and various organizations hit hard by severe weather access grants and other forms of assistance.
The proposal would also enhance the state’s existing relief programs by offering additional emergency home repair assistance or reimbursement to homeowners impacted by extreme weather.
Griffo is also pushing for a program that would offer property owners discounts for taking mitigation measures. He and his co-sponsor have written to the governor asking for support.
