The Onondaga County Democratic Committee is calling on Syracuse Common Councilor Pat Hogan to abandon any plans for a write-in campaign for mayor, following his loss in the Democratic primary to Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens.

Onondaga County Democrats are asking Common Councilor Pat Hogan to drop plans to run as a write-in candidate for mayor. Party officials released a statement noting that primary voters resoundingly supported Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens and that Hogan already had a chance to state his case to voters who chose a different path.

“Councilor Hogan’s primary campaign was well-run and he had every chance to state his case, but the voters chose a different path,” said County Democratic Chair Max Ruckdeschel in a statement. “We wish Pat well as he continues in his numerous public roles, but we believe that this campaign should be over, and the primary results respected as we move on to November.”

Hogan has said he would not endorse Owens and has been weighing a write in campaign along with other options.
