Syracuse is expanding its municipal broadband service, Surge Link, to reach more than 9,200 additional households across the city.
The expansion targets neighborhoods with limited internet access, including Valley, Skunk City, Washington Square, Northside, Prospect Hill, and Hawley-Green.
The project is part of a $15 million investment in fixed-wireless broadband infrastructure, supported by a $10.8 million grant from Governor Kathy Hochul’s ConnectALL initiative. Mayor Ben Walsh said, “Access to reliable, affordable broadband is no longer a luxury, it is a necessity for education, healthcare, employment, and civic participation.”
Surge Link offers 100 Mbps service for $14.99 per month for low-income households and $36.99 for others, with no contracts, data caps, or equipment rental fees. The service includes in-home Wi-Fi and 24/7 local customer support.
“This expansion is not just about bringing internet to people’s homes — it’s about bringing opportunity and connection to every corner of Syracuse,” said James Orioli of Community Broadband Networks, the city’s service partner.
