Black Women’s Equal Pay Day highlights persistent wage gap

July 10 is Black Women’s Equal Pay Day. It represents the number of extra days black women must work to earn what white, non-Hispanic men earned the previous year.

Statistics show that black women earn 66 cents for every dollar earned by white men. The New York Department of Labor says the Pay Transparency Law and Paid Prenatal Leave has helped close the gender gap, but more work remains.
