Jamesville Beach closed for swimming due to algal bloom

Green scum on dark green water
Algal blooms can turn the water green and form thick scum on the surface. Some types can release toxins that may cause skin rashes, stomach issues, or more serious health problems if touched or swallowed.

Jamesville Beach is closed for swimming due to an algal bloom. The Onondaga County Health Department says it will conduct water sampling to confirm there are no toxins before the beach is reopened.

Algal blooms can turn the water green and form thick surface scum on the water. People and animals can get seriously ill if they come in contact with a bloom. The Health Department says while the beach is closed, the park remains open.
